Open Position for a Research Scientist – Specializing in Cancer Biology
Cancer-related Advanced Research and Education (CARE), TCG CREST is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Senior Biologist with a strong interest in bioinformatics and data-driven research to join the Data Science team. The ideal candidate will have a solid foundation in biological sciences and demonstrated experience or inclination toward analyzing high-throughput bioinformatics and omics datasets. You will play a key role in bridging experimental biology through literature mining with computational analysis, contributing to translational research and target discovery programs.
Key Responsibilities:
- Critically review literature and data to contextualize findings within relevant biological frameworks.
- Collaborate with bioinformaticians and data scientists to integrate literature evidence from biological experiments with bioinformatics data.
- Generate biological insights from public and in-house datasets to support target identification, validation, and mechanistic studies.
- Contribute to the development and refinement of data-driven hypotheses and models for disease biology.
- Participate in multidisciplinary project teams and contribute to scientific discussions and strategy.
- Contribute to the development and writing of extramural grant proposals.
Required Qualifications:
- PhD with 3-5 yrs experience or MSc with 5-8 yrs experience in Cancer Biology, Biological Sciences, Molecular Biology, Genomics, or a related field.
- Strong understanding of cellular and molecular biology, disease mechanisms, and biological assay systems.
- Demonstrated interest or experience in bioinformatics or computational biology.
- Ability to interpret complex datasets and draw meaningful biological conclusions.
- Understanding of biological contextualisation of omics data analysis in cancer.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills with a proactive attitude toward interdisciplinary teamwork.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (data organization, charting, basic analysis), Word (scientific documentation), and PowerPoint (creating presentations).
- Candidates holding independent grants such as the Wellcome Trust/DBT India Alliance Intermediate Fellowship, Ramalingaswami Fellowship, or equivalent.
