Vivek Mittal

Vivek Mittal is the endowed chair Gerald J Ford- O. Wayne Isom Professor of Cardiothoracic Surgery, and the Director of the Neuberger Berman Lung Cancer Laboratory at New York Presbyterian, Weill Cornell Medical Center, New York.  Dr. Mittal and colleagues have made seminal discoveries describing the critical role of the tumor microenvironment in the development of life-threatening metastases. Current projects include areas pertaining to epigenetics, chromosomal instability, immunometabolism, LNP-mRNA vaccines for immunoprevention, endoplasmic reticulum stress, role of metals in metastasis and Artificial Intelligence/Radiomics in the context of lung cancer screens and early detection. These projects employ integrated preclinical and clinical research using genetic and pharmacological approaches.

 

Previously, Dr. Mittal held appointments in the faculties of Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory (CSHL) and Stony Brook University (SBU).  He lectures widely to diverse audiences throughout the world and has been published in leading journals including Science, Nature, Nature Cancer, Cancer Discovery, Cancer Cell, PNAS, and other leading peer-reviewed journals and text books. His research is supported by funds from the National Cancer Institute (NCI), Department of Defense (DOD) and private foundations, and several national and international patents have emerged from his discoveries.
