The Research Institute for Sustainable Energy (TCG-CREST, Salt Lake, Kolkata) seeks Applications from Outstanding Candidates for Assistant Professor Positions

Research Institute for Sustainable Energy (RISE) is established in Salt Lake Kolkata as one of the verticals of The Chatterjee Group’s Centers for Research and Education in Science and Technology (TCG-CREST), to perform high-end research and technology development in the field of Clean and Renewable Energy to address and solve the most challenging problems in the field. A first-rate laboratory infrastructure has been established for advanced research and training, with several national and international collaborations with leading laboratories around the world. The institute offers an unparalled ambience and informal setting for young researchers to grow and flourish along with substantial funding and logistics support.

RISE is looking for exceptional and ambitious young researchers who wish to make major contributions to the field of clean energy. While we have interests spanning several aspects of clean energy, the initial emphasis of the program is on battery development. Our interests in this domain cover most of the identified challenges in this field, especially related to solid state batteries, layered cathodes, polymeric battery materials, framework structures, electrolyte additives etc. We have implemented several in-operando as well as ex-situ advanced characterization schemes to gain deeper insights into the phenomena and related science. This includes advanced electrochemical characterization and analysis methodologies as well. We also have significant interest in developing batteries in different formats such as coin cell, cylindrical cells, pouch cells etc. with an objective of translating laboratory research to application sectors. We are also developing a parallel activity to work on green hydrogen (solar water splitting) and clean fuels by carbon dioxide reduction. This work involves intelligent development of various special catalysts involving various advanced functional materials of current interest including low dimensional materials and multidimensional catalysts.

We invite applications from outstanding young individuals who have established an excellent track record in one or more of these areas during their Ph.D. and postdoctoral experience. While we prefer candidates who have had at least 2-3 years of postdoctoral experience, these conditions can be waived in the case of exceptional candidates. If selected, the candidate is also expected to contribute to teaching the graduate students in the RISE graduate program (Ph.D. degree, to be awarded by NIT Durgapur) in addition to performing original research. The level of appointment will be determined by the credentials. Generous startup funding will be provided for setting up unique and internationally competitive research programs in line with the best laboratories in the world.
