About the Lecture

The lecture will broadly discuss pedagogic strategies used in the physical sciences to understand and utilize the ‘real’ world through approximations/idealizations. The talk is centred around Feynman’s ‘minimum sentence’ remark and possible extensions of it using the well-known Fermi-problem methods. The aim is to illustrate both the power and the limitations of approximations, a subject rarely included in science curricula.
