Dr. Proloy Das

Assistant Professor, IAI, TCG CREST

Dr. Proloy Das earned his PhD from the University of Maryland, College Park, in the year 2020 and is currently an associate professor at TCG CREST, he joined the institute in 2026.

Research

Dr. Das’s primary research focuses on developing advanced signal processing methods for neural time-series data, addressing challenges such as high dimensionality, intrinsic stochasticity, and pervasive noise. He aims to create novel parametric and semi-parametric models of neural dynamics, and to leverage machine learning–based optimization techniques to estimate these models in a data-driven manner. A key objective is to enable meaningful inferences— including causal interpretations— from the learned model parameters. Overall, this work is guided by a “let the data speak for itself” philosophy to enhance neural data analysis practices. Alongside these technical contributions, he is committed to open science and reproducible research, developing user-friendly software tools and sharing them through publicly accessible, open-source repositories.
