ADVERTISEMENT FOR THE POST OF PROJECT LINKED PERSONNEL IN A BFI-BIOME FUNDED RESEARCH PROJECT

Applications are invited from eligible candidates for filling up of the post of a “Project Linked Personnel” for the BFI-Biome project titled “Development of AI-ML model to predict responder vs non-responder molecular signatures against EGFR-TKI – India vs Caucasian lung cancer patient” under Dr. Shibasish Dasgupta, Professor of Practice, Institute for Advancing Intelligence (IAI), TCG Centres for Research and Education in Science and Technology (CREST).

NAME of POST: Project Associate

NO. of. POSTS: 1

JOB LOCATION: TCG CREST, Kolkata (*This is an on-site opportunity)

EDUCATIONAL  QUALIFICATION: Masters in Data Science/Bioinformatics/Biostatistics/Statistics/Computational Biology/Computer Science/Engineering with relevant experience or Fresh PhD in Bioinformatics/Biostatistics/Statistics/Computational Biology/Computer Science/Engineering.

Nice to have:

(i) Candidates with practical hands-on experience (2–5+ years for Masters; 0–2+ years for fresh PhD) working on Next Generation Sequencing/Omics projects in an academic, clinical or industry research setting will be preferred.

(ii) Experience publishing methods or co-authoring translational genomics research papers.

MAXIMUM AGE LIMIT: 30 years

EMOLUMENTS: As per the academic background and relevant work experience

DURATION of the POST: Initial term of 1 year, with the possibility of extension based on performance

REQUIRED SKILL SET

  • Machine Learning with hands-on experience in Python, R, and cloud computing.
  • Experience in analysing “Omics” data, in particular; genomics data.

Candidates should be aware that model development will require careful data curation, missing-data treatment and imputation strategies, robust statistical approaches for small-sample noisy data, and transparent reporting of uncertainty and limitations. Experience in feature engineering for small-sample genomics: pathway/gene-set aggregation, tumor-level signatures, and sparse feature selection. Demonstrated experience in rigorous model validation for small datasets (nested CV, bootstrapping, permutation testing) and uncertainty quantification.

ROLE and DUTIES: The selected candidate will be required to do full time research in the above specified research project. In particular, the candidate will have to build machine learning models for predicting the efficacy of treatment in lung cancer patients given the genomic sequence of the individuals and their associated metadata along with information about the treatment.

Eligible candidates fulfilling all the above criteria must email their application along with their updated resume by email to shibasish.dasgupta@tcgcrest.org with the subject line as “Application for the Project Associate.” Eligible candidates will be short listed & the interview details will be communicated to them via email.
