Prof. Prasenjit Majumder

Prof. Prasenjit Majumder is a Visiting Faculty at TCG CREST and a Professor at  Dhirubhai Ambani Institute of Information and Communication Technology (DAIICT), Gandhinagar. His research interest is Information Retrieval, Natural Language Processing, Human Computer interaction and Digital Libraries.

He served in the information retrieval Lab, CVPR Unit at Indian Statistical Institute. Kolkata for 10 years and did his Ph.d and Post-Doc from Jadavpur University, Kolkata and University College Dublin, Dublin, Ireland respectively. He was the Principle Investigator [2010-2017] for Gujarati Language vertical of the national consortium on cross lingual information access, funded by DEITY, Government of India. He is part of the consortium as a co-PI, funded by IMPRINT, MHRD and  Principal Scientific Adviser’s office, (PSA), GOI to run research on “A Platform for Cross Lingual and Multilingual Event Monitoring in Indian Languages” and “Speech to Speech Machine Translation” respectively.  He is one of the overall coordinates of  the Forum for Information Retrieval Evaluation (FIRE) since 2008. FIRE is an international conference on Information retrieval and evaluation with a special focus on South Asian languages.

Presently he is serving as the secretary of the Information Retrieval Society of India. He is an associate editor of ACM Transactions on Asian and Low-Resource Language Processing, and served as a PC member of ACM SIGIR for 7 years.  He authored one book and edited 2 monographs, published by ACM ICPC and Springer Nature.
