Prof. Samiran Chattopadhyay

Prof. Samiran Chattopadhyay has made significant internationally-recognised contributions in the areas of machine intelligence and its applications, wireless networks, and network security. Much of his work centres around the design and creation of computer models for decision analysis and optimisation, particularly in the fields of high throughput wireless networks, healthcare, power engineering and technology-enabled learning. Professor Chattopadhyay’s work in the field of authentication and access control has been drawn upon in contexts as diverse as telemedicine and Internet of Things (IoT). He has served as a Technical Program Committee member in several internationally renowned and ranked conferences. He is the author of about 170 articles in reputed journals and conference proceedings including more than 50 high impact journal publications.

Dr. Chattopadhyay has more than three decades of experience in teaching and research in the broad domain of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE). He has served as a professor in the departments of CSE and Information Technology (IT) at Jadavpur University, an adjunct professor at IIT Kharagpur and is currently a visiting fellow of the University of Northumbria, Newcastle upon Tyne UK. He has been instrumental setting up the IT department and the School of Mobile Computing and Communications at Jadavpur University. A B.Tech and M.Tech (gold medalist) from the Department of CSE, IIT Kharagpur, he obtained his PhD degree from Department of CSE, Jadavpur University.

Dr. Chattopadhyay has more than two decades of experience of serving reputed Industry houses including Motorola Inc at Arlington Heights Chicago, Mindware, a division of PCL where he worked as an expert reviewer for performance improvement of a distributed application project for NEC Japan. He was a consultant in Computer Associates TCG Software where he supported a team for the development of an intelligent component infrastructure. Dr. Chattopadhyay led a team at Interra Systems India Ltd. to support a couple of projects in the broad domains of EDA and Electron Beam Lithography. He led the development of an open-source C++ infrastructure and tool set for reconfigurable computing, released under the GNU GPL 3.0 license.

An expert member on several committees of the state and the central government for activities spanning a spectrum of activities like accreditation, e-governance, project approval, he has been a key member for a number of administrative initiatives in the University and in many renowned institutes in the state and the country.
